PEEK-Solvay KetaSpire KT-820
Sustaining dynamic load-bearing fatigue and chemical insolubility inside aggressive deep-well downhole or clinical sterilization environments demands an ultra-stiff, high-viscosity polymer, which Syensqo’s KetaSpire KT-820 delivers through its unreinforced, low-flow polyetheretherketone matrix. Boasting a density of 1.30 g/cm³ and a melt flow rate of 3.0 g/10 min, this highly crystalline grade provides outstanding creep resistance and best-in-class fatigue life compared to high-flow PEEK grades. Jucheng Precision, operating under ISO 13485 and IATF 16949 certified frameworks, specializes in high-temperature molding of KetaSpire KT-820. Supported by high-temperature ceramic heater bands and oil-heated tooling controllers, we ensure complete semi-crystalline phase alignment, delivering structural components verified by Zeiss CMM.
KetaSpire KT-820 Low-Flow Structural & High-Purity Profile
KetaSpire® KT-820 is an unreinforced, low-flow semi-crystalline Polyetheretherketone resin, lightly dusted with calcium stearate to aid pellet plastication, engineered to deliver best-in-class fatigue resistance:
| Physical & Strength Parameter | KetaSpire KT-820 Spec Metric | Dynamic Molding Advantage |
|---|---|---|
| Fatigue & Creep Life | Best-in-class fatigue cycle resistance | Low-flow long polymer chain entanglement delivers superior resistance to high-frequency load stress and micro-creeping over years of operation. |
| Melt Viscosity Profile | Low Flow 3.0 g/10 min MFR (400°C x 2.16kg) | Provides extremely high melt strength and viscosity uniformity, preventing parting line flashing under high-pressure dynamic packs. |
| Sterilization Adaptability | Autoclave, EtO, and Gamma Resistant | Exhibits exceptional resistance to mechanical and chemical property shifts even after hundreds of steam sterilization cycles. |
Process & Dynamic Load Configurations for Low-Flow KT-820
With high molecular weight and robust melt strength, KetaSpire KT-820 processes predictably inside high-pressure tools:
| Molding Process Class | Process Compatibility & Operational Details |
|---|---|
| Heavy-Duty Subsea Connector Seals | Excellent. The primary process for KT-820. Perfectly optimized for high-pressure downhole packer seals, dynamic oil-gas seal rings, and subsea connectors. |
| Autoclavable Medical Components | Excellent. Run inside our ISO Class 7/8 cleanrooms to mold highly complex orthopedic targeting caps, surgical dental trial screws, and clinical tubing adapters. |
| High-Wear Dynamic Bushings | Excellent. Highly suitable for structural sliding bearing blocks, dynamic silent gears, wear rings, and heavy-load valve seats in chemical processing. |
PEEK-Solvay KetaSpire KT-820 High-Temperature Tooling Matrix
Molding an unreinforced, high-viscosity semi-crystalline polymer like KetaSpire KT-820 requires high injection pressure profiles and exact thermal controls to prevent voids:
High-Temperature Pressurized Oil Mold Heating
To secure the proper semi-crystalline phase (giving PEEK its signature opaque beige color, chemical inertness, and strength), mold temperatures must be maintained continuously at 175°C–205°C (347°F to 401°F) using pressurized oil-heating controllers. Cold molds cause the melt to freeze amorphous, turning parts translucent brown and mechanically weak.
High-Viscosity Gate and Runner Sizing
With a low melt flow rate of 3.0, KT-820 is highly viscous. Gates must be sized generously (minimum 70% of part wall thickness) and sprues polished to avoid dynamic pressure drops and high shear stress, which can cause surface splay and gate blush near complex ribs.
S136 Mirror-Polished Tooling (Corrosion Protection)
Due to the extreme clamping pressures and melt velocities of PEEK KT-820, Jucheng’s tooling division uses hardened, corrosion-resistant S136 stainless steel molds. We heat-treat cavities to 52 HRC and design generous draft angles (minimum 1.5° to 2.0°) to ensure clean part release.
Extended Desiccant Pre-Drying
While PEEK absorbs minimal water, moisture causes hydrolytic splay and weld line degradation. We desiccant-dry KetaSpire KT-820 resin at 150°C (302°F) for 4 hours, keeping internal moisture below 0.02% to secure optimal molecular bonds.
