PA-DuPont Zytel 70G33L
Replacing die-cast aluminum and zinc alloys with lightweight polymers requires extreme mechanical reliability, which Celanese's Zytel 70G33L delivers through its 33% glass fiber reinforced polyamide 66 matrix. Boasting a dry-as-molded (DAM) tensile strength of 200 MPa and a melting point of 262°C, this high-performance nylon grade is the global benchmark for load-bearing automotive manifolds, structural brackets, and power tool housings. At Jucheng Precision, an ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 certified manufacturer, we specialize in high-temperature molding of Zytel 70G33L. Supported by our 5-axis CNC-machined H13 tool cavities, we maintain high mold temperatures to prevent floating fibers, verified by Zeiss CMM inspection.
Zytel 70G33L Structural Mechanics & Thermal Limits
Zytel® 70G33L NC010 is a 33% glass fiber reinforced, heat-stabilized polyamide 66 resin. Because polyamides absorb moisture, our tool designs and structural simulations account for both Dry-As-Molded (DAM) and Conditioned states:
| Engineering Property | Dry-As-Molded (DAM) Value | Conditioned (50% RH) Value |
|---|---|---|
| Tensile Modulus | 11,000 MPa | 7,500 MPa |
| Tensile Stress at Break | 200 MPa | 135 MPa |
| Heat Deflection (HDT) | 250 °C (@ 1.80 MPa) | 250 °C (Unchanged thermal limit) |
Industrial Structural Molding Applications & Processing Targets
With its high mechanical stiffness and heat-stabilized package, Zytel 70G33L substitutes die-cast alloys across severe load-bearing scenarios:
| Target Application | Process Execution Criteria |
|---|---|
| Automotive Under-the-Hood Structural Components | Designed for structural engine mounts, air intake manifolds, cylinder head covers, and heavy-duty radiator brackets requiring high continuous fatigue life. |
| Electric Power Tools & Heavy Gear | Ideal for drop-resistant circular saw frames, drill housings, heavy-duty industrial bobbins, and transmission gear assemblies. |
Zytel 70G33L Tooling Design & Fiber Orientation Guide
Molding a highly structural 33% glass-fiber reinforced Nylon 66 demands rigorous parameter profiling. We address its abrasive nature, anisotropic shrinkage, and visual fibers through targeted tooling solutions:
Abrasive Cavity Wear Control: Rigid glass fibers act as a grinding agent under high injection speeds, eroding standard steel gates rapidly. Jucheng’s tooling division resolves this by fabricating molds with high-hardness tool steels (H13 or S136) heat-treated to 52–54 HRC, combined with specialized PVD wear-resistant coatings to ensure mold longevity and sharp parting-line shut-offs.
Eliminating Floating Fibers (Cosmetic Float): Cold mold temperatures freeze the nylon matrix too rapidly, causing glass fibers to rise to the skin layer (yielding a rough, whitish surface). We use high mold temperatures (100°C–120°C / 212°F–248°F) managed by pressurized water controllers to keep the skin layer resinous, glossy, and visually flawless.
Compensating for Anisotropic Shrinkage: Zytel 70G33L shrinks exceptionally low along the flow path (0.50%) but significantly higher perpendicular to the flow (1.10%). Our engineering team conducts rigorous Moldflow analysis during our free 24-hour DFM phase to balance gates and orient fibers, preventing post-molding structural warpage.
Desiccant Pre-Drying Protocol: PA66 is highly hygroscopic. Wet processing causes polymer chain cleavage, severe brittleness, and cosmetic splay. We dry raw material in desiccant hopper dryers at 80°C–100°C (176°F–212°F) for 4–6 hours, keeping moisture strictly below 0.10% (ideally <0.08% for heavy load parts).
