Covestro Bayblend® FR3010 is a flame-retardant PC/ABS grade for injection molding. It is a material candidate for electrical and electronic housings when a project calls for a PC/ABS blend and a documented flame rating. The grade is not a substitute for testing the finished part: wall thickness, color, geometry and processing can change the result.

What the FR3010 data actually says

Covestro lists UL 94 V-0 at 1.5 mm, 5VB at 2.0 mm and 5VA at 3.0 mm for its test specimens. These are different classifications at different thicknesses. Do not apply a 3.0 mm material result to a thinner finished enclosure, or describe the finished component as certified without the required project-specific evidence.

Other published typical values include a 0.50–0.70% molding-shrinkage range measured on 150 × 105 × 3 mm plaques at a 240 °C melt and 80 °C mold temperature, an MVR of 15 cm³/10 min at 240 °C/5 kg, and a notched Izod impact result of 35 kJ/m² at 23 °C. These are reference values for material selection, not guaranteed dimensions or strength for your part.

What to check before custom injection molding

  • Part geometry: Share the 2D/3D drawing, nominal and minimum wall thickness, ribs, bosses, mating features and cosmetic surfaces. The flame-rating thickness on a specimen is not automatically the minimum usable wall for every part.
  • Material identity: Specify Bayblend FR3010, color and any permitted regrind or alternate grade. FR3010 HI, FR3010 IF and FR3010 R75 are separate products with different published data.
  • Acceptance criteria: State the applicable electrical or fire requirement, the testing body or standard, critical dimensions, appearance criteria and how the finished part will be verified. Material data alone cannot establish product compliance.
  • Tooling and processing: Review gate position, weld lines, venting and moisture control against the part design. Covestro lists 80 °C for four hours in a dry-air dryer as a reference drying condition; the actual setup must be validated for the equipment and resin lot.

Applications and limits

FR3010 can be considered for molded electrical housings, covers and similar components where the design team needs a flame-retardant PC/ABS option. Suitability for a specific charger, vehicle or regulated product depends on the complete design and its testing. Covestro’s current product information also restricts regulated uses without its prior written approval; do not treat a material-page listing as medical, food-contact or finished-product approval.

Request a moldability review

For a custom FR3010 molding quote, send the drawing, expected annual and first-run quantity, color, wall thickness, required flame classification and inspection requirements. We can review whether this grade and an injection-molding approach fit those requirements, then agree on the evidence needed for the finished parts. For other grades, see the materials directory.
