PS-Trinseo STYRON A-tech 1175

PS-Trinseo STYRON A-tech 1175 is an advanced technology high impact polystyrene (HIPS) engineered by Trinseo, distinguished by its exceptional environmental stress crack resistance (ESCR) against hydrocarbons and fats, alongside robust rigidity. Featuring a density of 1.05 g/cm³ and a melt index of 2.8 g/10 min, this grade is universally specified for large refrigeration liners, home appliance accessories, and food-contact enclosures. Jucheng Precision, under IATF 16949 and ISO 9001 quality frameworks, specializes in molding STYRON A-tech 1175 to yield high structural durability. Utilizing our 35+ advanced injection presses and in-house tooling, we prevent surface weld lines and optimize wall thickness distribution, verified by Zeiss CMM inspection.

Trinseo STYRON A-tech 1175 Structural and Crack Resistance Profile

STYRON™ A-tech 1175 is an advanced technology high impact polystyrene (HIPS) engineered to combine extreme toughness with chemical resistance against oils and foodstuffs:

Performance Parameter STYRON A-tech 1175 Specification Molding & Assembly Advantage
Environmental Stress Crack Resistance (ESCR) Exceptional ESCR to fats & hydrocarbons Prevents environmental stress cracking caused by exposure to food oils, chemical detergents, and hydrocarbon agents in refrigeration environments.
Structural Rigidity Tensile Modulus 1650 MPa Provides robust, load-bearing mechanical stiffness, enabling wall-thickness down-gauging in large home appliance shells.
Impact Resistance Charpy Notched Impact 11 kJ/m² Rubber-modified polybutadiene domains provide extreme impact toughness, preventing brittle cracking under physical impact.

Process Compatibility for STYRON A-tech 1175

With a Melt Flow Index of 2.8 g/10 min, STYRON A-tech 1175 provides great melt strength and supports robust structural runs:

Molding Configuration Molding Compatibility & Execution Details
High-Impact Rigid Molding Excellent. Highly optimized for thick-walled appliance liners, structural refrigerator inner components, and durable home appliance brackets.
Deep-Draw Thin-Wall Components High. Its exceptional melt strength prevents wall tearing during progressive cavity packing, facilitating uniform wall thickness.
Insert & Overmolding Good. Rigid metal hinges or electrical housings can be easily insert-molded without cracking the surrounding HIPS substrate.

PS-Trinseo STYRON A-tech 1175 Tooling & Flow Line Prevention Guide

STYRON A-tech 1175 is an amorphous HIPS with a low mold shrinkage rate, but managing weld-line weakness and internal stresses is key to preserving its ESCR properties:

  • Optimizing Weld Line Integrity: In refrigeration and food contact parts, weld lines (where melt flows meet) are highly vulnerable to stress cracking. Jucheng’s tooling division conducts extensive Moldflow simulations during our free 24-hour DFM phase to position gates strategically, shifting weld lines away from high-stress areas.
  • Mold Temperature Control (Surface Gloss): We maintain elevated mold temperatures at 40°C–65°C (104°F to 149°F) using pressurized temperature controllers. High mold temperatures maximize surface gloss, reduce flow marks, and minimize molded-in residual stresses.
  • Scientific Injection Profiling: Processing melt temperatures are kept between 200°C and 250°C (392°F to 482°F). Slow to moderate injection speeds combined with progressive packing pressures are applied to avoid rubber-phase shear degradation.
  • Predictable Low Shrinkage: STYRON A-tech 1175 exhibits a low, uniform shrinkage rate of 0.4% to 0.8%. This enables our 5-axis CNC machining center to cut precise, tight-tolerance mold cavities.

Key Application Fields for PS-Trinseo STYRON A-tech 1175

  • Home Appliances & Refrigeration: Large refrigerator door liners, food-contact vegetable crisper drawers, air conditioner covers, vacuum cleaner shells, and washing machine trims.
  • Consumer Electronics: TV protective back covers, printer paper trays, computer monitor housings, and structural electronic enclosures.
  • Food-Safe Industrial Packaging: Thick-walled reusable food-contact containers, heavy-duty stackable grocery trays, and pharmaceutical secondary packaging.
