PP-Borealis RF365MO
PP-Borealis RF365MO is an advanced, nucleated random copolymer polypropylene designed by Borealis for high-speed injection molding of highly transparent containers and closures. Offering a medium-to-high melt flow rate of 20 g/10 min and exceptional organoleptic (low-odor and low-flavor transfer) properties, it is highly sought after for food-contact, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical packaging. Jucheng Precision, operating under strict ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 standards, provides precision tooling and clean molding solutions for RF365MO. Utilizing our 25+ in-house five-axis CNC machines, we build high-precision molds with balanced hot runner gates to prevent weld lines, maximizing the material's aesthetic transparency.
Borealis RF365MO Optical and Organoleptic Characteristics
Borealis RF365MO is a nucleated random copolymer Polypropylene specially formulated to achieve glass-like optical clarity and strict organoleptic compliance for consumer packaging:
| Physical & Optical Attribute | RF365MO Standard Rating | Packaging Design Advantage |
|---|---|---|
| Haze & Transparency | Nucleated High-Clarity Rating | Provides exceptional, crystal-clear optics on thin-walled parts, allowing end consumers to easily inspect filled product levels. |
| Organoleptic Property | Ultra-Low Odor & Flavor Transfer | Ensures zero smell or taste migration. Fully complies with strict EU and US FDA food contact regulations, maintaining pure product flavor. |
| Stiffness-Impact Balance | Tensile Modulus 1150 MPa | Combines high structural rigidity for stackable container designs with good ambient temperature impact resistance (Charpy Notched 5.5 kJ/m²). |
High-Speed Molding Compatibility for RF365MO
With a medium-to-high Melt Flow Rate of 20 g/10 min, Borealis RF365MO flows effortlessly to accommodate fast-cycling machinery:
| Production Process | Molding Strategy for RF365MO |
|---|---|
| High-Speed Thin-Wall Molding | Excellent. The high flow index allows ultra-fast cavity filling for multi-cavity housewares and thin food tubs, significantly shaving down cycles. |
| Threaded Caps & Closures | Excellent. Includes built-in demolding additives, facilitating smooth automatic unscrewing and strip-release of detailed threads. |
| Multi-Cavity Hot Runner Runs | Excellent. Stable flow behaviors under continuous heating, preventing thermal degradation and assuring cosmetic perfection. |
PP-Borealis RF365MO Precision Mold Design & Tooling Guide
Molding an optical-grade copolymer requires careful gate design and uniform mold temperature management to protect clarity and prevent sink marks:
- Preserving High Clarity (Mirror-Surface Molds): Any microscopic roughness on the mold core or cavity will scatter light, causing haze. Jucheng’s tooling division uses hardened mirror-polished S136 stainless steel, ensuring a pristine smooth finish directly from tool release.
- Optimizing Flow & Shear Stress: To prevent “blush” marks and visible weld lines, we analyze gate locations via Moldflow simulation during DFM. We engineer wide valve gates or highly balanced hot runner tips to reduce local shear heating.
- Cooling & Shrinkage Controls: Copolymer shrinkage runs between 1.0% and 2.0% depending on part thickness. We keep mold temperatures uniform at 30°C to 40°C (86°F–104°F) using CNC-machined conformal cooling loops to eliminate warpage and prevent sink marks.
- Processing Temperatures: Melt temperatures are managed at 210°C–260°C (410°F–500°F). High-speed injection profiles are applied, supported by an optimized holding pressure of 200–500 bar to secure structural density.
