Start With the Machine Architecture

Two-shot machines may use two injection units arranged vertically, horizontally, or at another angle suited to the mold. Some tools index a rotary platen or table; others use core-back or transfer movement. The machine and mold are therefore a matched system. A press that can inject two materials is not automatically suitable for the required part geometry or interface.

Clamp force should reflect projected area, cavity pressure, safety margin, and the complete multi-cavity layout.
