To prevent warpage and optimize the fatigue strength of the living hinges, our technical team implements precise processing boundaries for Moplen HP500N:

  • Living Hinge Tooling Design: To secure optimal molecular orientation across the hinge, our in-house tooling division utilizes 5-axis CNC machines to cut precise, highly polished steel cores. Gates are placed to ensure the melt flows straight across the hinge perpendicular to the flexing axis, avoiding weak weld lines in the thin (typically 0.25mm to 0.38mm) hinge area.
  • Melt Temperature profile: Maintained strictly between 200°C and 240°C (392°F to 464°F). Under-heating increases viscosity, causing high internal stresses, while overheating degrades the homopolymer chains, making hinges brittle.
  • Mold Temperature Control: Managed at 20°C to 50°C (68°F to 122°F). Rapid cooling is necessary to restrict crystalline grain size, which increases part toughness and flexibility, particularly for snap-fits and hinges.
  • Shrinkage Compensation: Homopolymer PP shrinks heavily (1.3% to 1.8%). Jucheng’s tooling engineers offset this volumetric shrinkage in the mold design stage using Moldflow analysis to maintain strict part geometry.
