ABS Injection Molding Manufacturing & Tooling Guide<\/h2>\n

While ABS is generally forgiving to process, maintaining cosmetic excellence and high dimensional repeatability demands scientific process controls:<\/p>\n

  • Pre-Drying:<\/strong> ABS is moderately hygroscopic and will absorb atmospheric moisture. We strictly pre-dry ABS resin in desiccant dryers at 80\u00b0C\u201385\u00b0C (176\u00b0F\u2013185\u00b0F) for 2\u20134 hours to prevent splay, cosmetic silver streaks, and mechanical weakening.<\/li>\n
  • \u6eb6\u878d\u6e29\u5ea6\uff1a<\/strong> Processed between 200\u00b0C and 240\u00b0C (392\u00b0F to 464\u00b0F). For flame retardant (FR) grades, we limit melt temperatures to 230\u00b0C to prevent thermal degradation of FR additives.<\/li>\n
  • Mold Temperature:<\/strong> Kept between 40\u00b0C and 80\u00b0C (104\u00b0F to 176\u00b0F). Higher mold temperatures improve flow, reduce molded-in stresses, and elevate the final part’s surface gloss.<\/li>\n
  • Draft Angles:<\/strong> Due to ABS’s rigid nature, draft angles of 1.5\u00b0 to 2\u00b0 are recommended to facilitate clean ejection without drag marks, particularly on textured surface finishes (e.g., MT11010).<\/li>\n
  • Shrinkage Calculation:<\/strong> ABS exhibits low and predictable shrinkage (typically 0.4% to 0.7%). Our tooling division utilizes 5-axis CNC machining to cut mold cavities with precise scaling, ensuring tight dimensional tolerances.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/section>\n
